In September 2026, the learning community webinar featured Dana Albright, PhD, Clinical Psychologist and Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor and Research Scientist at Parkview Health.
The meeting featured a presentation by Dr. Dana Albright on supporting patients with type 2 diabetes through addressing diabetes distress. Dr. Albright discussed the definition and prevalence of diabetes distress, its impact on health outcomes, and common sources of distress such as lack of support, communication challenges, and stigma. She outlined a continuum of approaches for providers, starting with universal screening and moving to simply asking patients about their distress, validating and normalizing their feelings, and using the spirit of motivational interviewing to foster partnership and compassion. Dr. Albright also covered problem-solving strategies for issues within a patient's control and emotion-focused coping for those outside of it.
