An MCT2D physician member came to us with a need: Our practice could use additional support to reinforce the low carb conversations we're having in clinic.
Rina Hisamatsu, RDN, MPH, turned this conversation into a collaboration, producing a three-part video series introducing low carb in 10-minute bites. The video series covers Low Carb A-Z:
What are carbohydrates and how do I identify them?
Carbs, protein, fats and what they do to my body
How do I figure out carb counts?
How do I build easy, affordable low meals, both at home and while dining out?
How do I eat my favorite meals while maintaining low carb?
How do I shop and meal plan?
How will low carb eating fit into my work and social life?
What is my Big Why and how can I get back on track for long term lifestyle change?
Intro to a Low Carb Lifestyle Part 1
Rina and the team are proud to share these videos with the collaborative. She notes:
"My intention and vision for this 3-part low carb series is to shed some light on this eating pattern in a way that is accessible and easy to understand for all who come across it. I hope it will be disseminated widely within our clinics and be used as a tool for patients seeking guidance and knowledge about what this meal plan entails."
This work would not be possible without the support and guidance of members and our patient advisory board. Dr. Bradley Sabin, a primary care physician in the Black Bear region, recommended this tool.
I hope the short videos on low carb diets will reinforce the discussions that I have with my patients in the office and empower the patients to initiate change. I envision this as an introduction to ongoing learning about managing their diabetes and accessing the resources on the MCT2D website.
